STARLIGHT Delivers Its 8th Operational Pilot

The STARLIGHT project has successfully completed its 8th and final Operational Pilot, hosted by the Centre for Security Studies (KEMEA) in Athens on 25–26 November 2025. As the coordinating partner for all pilot activities, KEMEA led the organisation, testing, and validation processes, bringing together Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) and technical partners from the project’s 50+ member consortium.

During this final pilot, participating LEAs evaluated STARLIGHT’s suite of AI tools in realistic operational scenarios. As in previous pilots, assessments were supported by the Maturity Evaluation Tool (MET), a KEMEA-developed application aligned with Technology Readiness Level (TRL) frameworks, the AI Act, and current EU legislation. The MET provided technical partners with an up-to-date view of the maturity and readiness of their solutions.

This pilot marks the conclusion of a multi-year effort to co-develop, test, and refine AI-based tools designed to strengthen European law enforcement capabilities. Insights from operational partners continue to highlight the importance of practical testing, ethical safeguards, and close collaboration between the security and research sectors.
