On October 26, 2023, the STARLIGHT team had the pleasure of attending the second Anti-FinTer Policy Seminar in Brussels, Belgium. This event brought together a diverse group of experts and stakeholders, all focused on understanding and developing law enforcement strategies to combat terrorist financing in today’s digital age.
The discussions at the seminar revolved around four essential pillars that are crucial for effective law enforcement: availability of tools, access to knowledge, access to data, and strengthened cooperation. Each of these pillars plays a vital role in ensuring that law enforcement agencies have the resources and support they need to effectively combat terrorist financing, especially in light of the new challenges posed by emerging technologies.
The Anti-FinTer event facilitated these important discussions, aiming to improve access to tools, knowledge, and data, as well as bolster national and international cooperation among law enforcement agencies. Eljo Haspels and Mark van Staalduinen, from our partner CFLW Cyber Strategies, represented STARLIGHT at the event. As Anti-FinTer project partners and seminar co-organisers, they were actively involved in the discussions and interventions. This highlighted the significance of collaborative efforts in addressing the complex challenges associated with terrorist financing.
The insights gained from the Anti-FinTer Policy Seminar will undoubtedly contribute to our ongoing efforts in the fields of artificial intelligence, cybercrime, and security research. We look forward to continuing our work in these crucial areas and furthering our collaborations with our partners and stakeholders.
