STARLIGHT attended the popAI final event on September 19 in Brussels.
As sibling project popAI reached its conclusion after an intensive two-year journey, its final event, titled "Towards a European AI Hub for Law Enforcement Agencies Supporting the Ethical Use of AI in Policing," marked the culmination of this effort.
The STARLIGHT project was delighted to be part of this event alongside sibling project, ALIGNER, as well as other linked EU projects. The event featured multi-disciplinary panel discussions and speeches on key topics related to the ecosystem and the practical use of popAI results within the cluster.
The event's agenda brought together experts, stakeholders, and thought leaders in the field of AI in law enforcement. The active involvement of our partner, Ezgi Eren of KU Leuven, enriched the discussions and insights shared during the event.
During a compelling panel discussion on "multi-disciplinary best practices and policy recommendations," our representative had the opportunity to share expertise and perspectives on policy recommendations, aligning with the project's objectives. The discussions encompassed fundamental rights impact assessments, the AI Act, and the importance of building public trust in AI technologies.
In the final session about "The road ahead and the future of the SU-AI cluster," STARLIGHT emphasised the benefits of collaboration between projects and the potential for sharing methodologies and experiences to benefit the broader security community.
STARLIGHT's participation in the popAI Final Event reflects our commitment to actively engage with the wider research and policy landscape, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange in the field of AI and law enforcement.
We congratulate and appreciate popAI for their impactful contributions.
